September 2001

We're back home in Oklahoma busy as ever working on the property and house. We are finally getting a kitchen, Larry never ceases to amaze everyone at the things he can do that he's never done before. Our friend Shawn in Kansas City area donated kitchen cabinets and Larry got them all in place and is doing the Formica counter tops now.

We had a wonderful but tiring 4 months on the road from March till July. The truck was in the shop 8 times, really, I have the receipts to prove it. A couple times we had to change plans and sit where we were cuz the truck was in the shop. I think that had a lot to do with the fatigue level of this tour. I also had many days sick as usual, I guess it must be allergies, I always think it's a cold or something. Many churches say, "you were sick last time you we're here". I usually squeak out something but finally had one service I could not sing at all, wow! That was hard to take. But it seems to come with the travel...

I also lost 2 life long friends in May, one a gal in her 40's the other a man in his 80's. (When we got home in July we got news that a good friend has died that Sunday so after 1 day home we left to go sing at her funeral. She was the wife of a pastor of a church we've sung at for years in South Kansas. She was my age. Thank God we got home at that time). Anyway, thought I'd get the bad news done with right away.

MARCH, we got to attend the Calvary High Sierra Conference for the 1st time. What a blessing, we didn't go to sing just be filled, although we were asked to lead worship one morning acoustically, we're trying to do that now and then and not always bring in all our equipment.

APRIL, We enjoyed Easter at Calvary Twin Falls with Chuck Missler in a 3 day Conference. I was sick that whole time also. We spent a week in Twin Falls, it's always a blessing to return. We'd spent quite a stretch of last year there praying about going on staff.

MAY, while in Northern California, we visited Berkeley, where my folks lived when I was born, it was eerie to be there. I walked up one set of stairs and felt weird (ok, weirder) and my mom told me later that was exactly where we lived. My dad died in 57 and I have no memories of him so it was special to see the place where I came into the world. I have no idea why I never visited there before as years ago in my hippie era I hung out on Telegraph Ave... Guess I was too high back then to care. Also in May we sang a few Churches in Southern Oregon and we got to visit my brothers place he and his wife just bought. (40 beautiful acres in a quiet area.)

On the way to Oregon we stopped in Redding, California to visit our friend Chuck Strahan (our personal photographer) who shot some new photos for us, you'll see some popping up on the web site and on our next CD, which we haven't really started yet due to all the Home Improvement going on at this time... The end of May we spent a few days in Southern California to visit my family and sing a few churches.

JUNE, we attended the Marathon Motorcycle Rally in Nevada City, again not to minister but to be ministered to. What a blessing to visit friends from several different churches and be blessed by Duane Clark and Kevin Green. We we're blessed my many gifted teachers and our biker buddy Terry Arrighi who did an excellent illustration with old antique bottles he'd collected. And I was presented with a lavender bottle, the only one. Wow! talk about blessed! Fathers Day we sang at Calvary Twin Falls as we headed East to Salt Lake City then on into Denver. Colorado was one of the places where the truck ended up in the shop several times.

The end of June we sang at the 2nd annual Rocky Mountain Thunder Rally. What a blessing that the secular motorcycle event allowed a Christian Stage at the whole Rally. The CMA do a wonderful job ministering.

JULY, we got to camp back at our friends Long Horn Cattle Ranch that adopted one of the 6 cats we showed up there with last summer. They named her Miss Lucy and she has taken over the place. Colorado is always a special place for us, as we met and married there and we have so many friends as we both lived there before we got together and several years after. The end of July we were finally home.

AUGUST, we took off for St. Louis where we did a wedding, a couple churches and a riverboat cruise. Now that was a fun experience, other boats would pull up to listen to the music. One person on the cruise re-dedicated their life to Jesus and one gave theirs to HIM!!! Then we went on to the Kansas City area where we did the annual Midwest Leadership Conference, and that is always a blessing. Pastor Xavier Ries from Calvary Pasadena is also making it an annual event to come teach us. Xavier is doing well recovering from his very serious motorcycle accident earlier this year.

Well that brings us to September. We are home most weeks going out on weekends to sing. My folks arrive tomorrow from Calif. to visit a few days then we'll all go to Wichita Kansas area where Friday night we'll visit the PRAIRIE ROSE CHUCK WAGON SUPPER, owned by our friends Thomas & Cheryl Etheredge (see links page) for a great meal and wholesome family 'Cowboy' music show.  Then Saturday Larry will be joining friends coming in from Colorado, Tennessee, Nebraska, Illinois & Missouri, for a reunion of their old band MS FUNK, of which one member, Tommy Shaw has gone on to be with STYX... Saturday night  Tommy is treating us all to the STYX Concert at the State Fair in Hutchinson, Kansas.....
